This is meant to be used to improve the seal on a window or that already works OK but lacks adequate weather stripping. It will work fine for that purpose. It is not meant to seal other kinds of gaps. I mainly got it because I live in an apartment building and a foolish person on the floor below smokes like a chimney. The updraft carried smoke into my home constantly and adding extra weather stripping to the front door has mostly eliminated the problem. The adhesive is pretty good - better than I expected, and it has adhered well to painted metal, glass, and smooth stone. I knocked off a star because the rubber has lass spring-back than I hoped after using it for a week. It stays pretty compressed when I open the door. This will probably be an issue more if you are trying to seal an irregular sized gap or a location where the gap grows and shrinks depending on temperature and humidity.
